Reporting to the Team Lead, Water & Wastewater, the Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the municipal water distribution, wastewater collection, and drainage systems and related facilities.  The person we’re looking for is service focused, has excellent communication skills, and always has safety top-of-mind.
 
What YOU'RE Responsible for:

  • Maintain and operate Level III water distribution and wastewater collection systems in accordance with all Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines and Alberta Environment and Protected Areas acts, regulations, and Codes of Practice
  • Perform water distribution tasks such as pump station checks, water quality testing, hydrant flushing and maintenance, valve exercising, water meter installation, and water meter reading
  • Perform subdivision and other infrastructure inspections
  • Maintain and monitor wastewater (sanitary) lift stations
  • Maintain and monitor storm water management facilities, including storm water lift stations
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to residents
  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned
What YOU Bring:
  • Minimum Level I Wastewater Collection Certificate & Level I Water Distribution Certificate 
  • 1 year experience in a municipal background pertaining to infrastructure including water and sewer
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable safety related legislation, regulations, guidelines, standards and best practices
  • Other applicable training: Confined Space Certificate, H2S Alive Certificate, Standard Level C First Aid and CPR, and WHMIS
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, technical abilities, and problem solving skills

Assets:

  • Level II Wastewater Collection Certificate & Level II Water Distribution Certificate 
  • Graduate of the NAIT Water and Wastewater Technician program (or equivalent) 
  • Experience with Cityworks or other service request tracking software 

As the successful candidate you will have the ability to:

  • Meet the shift requirements of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday-Friday. This position also requires participation in an on-call rotation. Overtime may be required.
  • Meet the physical requirements, including lifting heavy equipment and materials up to 23 kilograms (50 lbs.), adhering to long periods of standing and sitting, working in all weather conditions, etc.
  • Provide a clean criminal record check.
  • Provide a driver’s abstract that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour.
  • Adhere to all safety standards and promote the organization’s health and safety program.
  • Keep detailed, accurate records in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Work and communicate effectively with the Operations team, management, other city departments, and residents.

What WE Offer:

  • A 4-month term position with a salary range of $66,060.80 – $86,216.00 (based on experience and qualifications)
  • A 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
